Gus the Builder

We went outside a couple of days ago to enjoy the weather. As soon as we got out there, Sylvia said that she wanted to have a little store and then told me to go cut down some trees! Well I obviously wasn't going to do that and I started thinking about something else. But before I knew it Gus ran into the house and ran out with his arms full of boards. Here he is glueing the beginnings of Sylvia's shop to the carport floor. That kind of project is just up his alley. Too bad we didn't have many boards. Too bad Elmer's glue doesn't really adhere wood to cement.

Mac Daddy

I think it's time we had a break from the Millie pictures. Here's a couple of Gus all decked out in his cousin's shirt, size 18 months pj pants, and his "foot hat".

Here he's begging me to use the camera. I said, "No, only kids who do school and chores can use this." How's that for a little early incentive? In case you are wondering, he is carrying about 4 or 5 pencils around in the pink bag, "sky blue" pencils...his favorite.

Here he is showing off his signature break dance move.

Birthday Yhurt

Gus has a real object fixation. There's always something he's got to have with him. Right now one of those things is his Thomas the Tank shirt that my sister gave him for his birthday. He calls it his "Birthday Yhurt". Yes, "yhurt" (pronounced through the nose) is one of his last, and the worst of, his remaining mispronunciations. He's growing up!

Sweet Dreams

Gus was asleep in a normal position when I left his and Sylvia's room the first time. When I came back to turn the lights out (Sylvia stays up reading), this is how I found him. I don't know what happened!

Wild

Gus is growing up so fast. He's always been a wild, romping little boy. But things are different now. He's getting smarter and stronger. He's discovering how much fun it is to take things apart, throw them around, jump on them a little (or a lot), and make them his own. Look out Mama!!!!

Happy Birthday to...

GUS!!!

Or should I say Augustus? Boy, he's growing up.

Here's a little conversation we had a week or two ago.

Me: Hey Gus. What kind of cake do you want for your birthday?

Gus: Bew.

Me: I mean what flavor cake?

Gus: Train.

Me: What do you want it to taste like?

Gus: Uhhhhh....TRAIN.

Okay buddy, here you go.

Bew Gas

When I need to go somewhere I load the kids up in the van. Before we leave the garage, we decide what to listen to. For awhile, Gus kept asking for "Pee Pan". He really didn't want to pick that but we finished listening to Peter Pan a few weeks ago and he thought it was funny to keep asking for it.

Recently he started asking for "bew gas" (bluegrass) and that I will oblige.

But his love of bluegrass is not new.

Here he is two years ago, getting down to a little bluegrass breakdown.

It must be a phase. Sylvia went through the same thing at 2.5 years of age. I was shocked that a child that young would take such a liking to computer games. Gus is now obsessed with the same games at www.uptoten.com and the funny thing is that he prefers switching the language over to French, just like Sylvia did. I've taken to shutting the computer down during the day to keep him off of it.

Gus must be enamored with Millie. When Sylvia got a couple of baby dolls this past Christmas, he commandeered the smaller one as his own. In the last couple of months it became his little side kick. He took it out with us on errands and even began sleeping with it. A couple of days ago, Rex brought home a little multi-tool. It looks like the doll is in second place now. During story time last night, Gus clutched his tool and every now and then would lean in close and whisper, "Ma...tool."

Contrary Taste

I walked into the kitchen this morning to find Gus sipping the juice from the sauerkraut jar. He also has a taste for apple cider vinegar, coffee, and cod liver oil. All this and I still can hardly get him to eat his greens.

Awn Fih!

"Awn fih!...Awn fih!" That's Gus speak for "I want to fix!". He loves taking things apart and trying to put them back together. Yesterday, he repeated one of his favorite activities by taking a screwdriver and unscrewing a tiny screw from the bottom of his ride on train and taking the batteries out. He has even been known to put them back in the right order.

This morning he decided to cut up some electrical tape. He put the tape pieces on paper and assigned them each entities. The first one was a snowman, the second a train, and I'm still trying to figure the third one out..."Puh! Puh!".

We're waiting on my parents to arrive any minute bringing Sylvia back from her weekend stay. Rex is cooking up some salmon and veggies for lunch...smells great!
