March 24, 2011

I decided to drop Catechism and Classical Arithmetic from Sylvia’s school schedule. I think it will be better, and less stressful to concentrate on CLAA’s Latin. The other things she is doing are Singapore Math 2, Christian Light Education Language Arts Light Unit, fiddle practice, Classical Conversations (which is memory work for several subjects) and Veritas Press Self-Paced Online History course (Old Testament/ Ancient Egypt). I read Arthur Maxwell’s The Bible Story to all the kids after breakfast. Right now for science I am relying on Classical Conversations memory work and Beakman’s World. We also have all of the Let’s Read and Find Out science series and Sylvia’s read them all. I love Singapore Math and after we started the CLAA’s Classical Grammar course (which is Latin) she considers math to be one of her easy subjects! Her language arts program is great because it is spelling, handwriting, and English grammar all in one workbook. Sylvia’s been taking karate for a little over a year now. Just like Classical Conversations, it has become a part of our family life. That’s it for now. We’ll continue through the summer, taking off as needed.

March 20, 2011

his is the second year that we have had the kids give up sweet treats for Lent, but the first that we celebrated Mardi Gras. Instead of school, we started the day off at Krispy Kreme. After a quick run through Target (which is fun for me, blush), we headed to a park for an hour, went to visit Rex at work, hit up Five Guys for lunch, picked out some cookies for the ride back to King and a King Cake for after dinner, and finally made it to karate practice. After dinner, in addition to the cake, the kids got to get out all the treats left in the house and eat as much as they could. I’m a good mom, so I helped out as much as I could. ;0)

Here’s a good picture of Rex and Harmon from the cook out we went to yesterday.

Our friends got a trampoline for Christmas. I was tempted to get one for the kids. I love anything that will get them outside more! But Rex thinks that when it comes to trampolines, we need to err on the side of caution, so I’ve stopped thinking about it.
