Link to Church Christmas Program

Here's the link to Sylvia's first fiddle and solo singing performance. I didn't get to go because it was the day after Harmon was born but I think we've watched the video at least 10 times. We are so proud of her (and Gus' dancing too)!

Our New Friend

That's a fox in our yard. He must love all the rabbits around here. We've spotted him three times this year. Twice in the last couple of weeks.

There aren't any children on our street so Sylvia decided that the elderly lady across the road is her best friend on the street. When we first moved in, this lady brought us some old toys she no longer needed. We wave to her when she is outside. That is the extent of our communication. Yesterday, out of nowhere, Sylvia got the itch to go talk to her. She asked Rex and I to go but we were both busy. Gus volunteered so they grabbed some homemade paper flowers and ventured out. They are both usually so shy, I was stunned this was happening. But they actually had a ten minute conversation with the neighbor. They're more sociable than I am!

PS- This picture is from a different day. I did not send Gus over without a shirt and Sylvia with stained clothes!!!

I took the kids to the Earth Day Celebration on the Wake Forest campus last week. The weather was beautiful. We stopped for a little swinging first. I want a tree swing in our yard!

The festival was bigger than I expected. I met a nice older woman who offered to help me carry my not so small stroller down quite a few steps. She was so nice! But luckily I found the ramps on the way back to the car. We bought strawberries, had a picnic, listened to music, made pace counters; but ultimately their favorite part was the ice cream.

This picture is from today. I want one of these too. Millie would have fallen asleep if I pushed her just a little longer!

I Finally Gave In

Rex has been begging me to get a makeover and dye my hair blond. So the other day I hired a strange babysitter and spent the day at the salon. How do you like me?

Are you shocked? Yes, I would be too. April Fools! And you have to check out this awesome makeover site .

Happy Easter Belated!

I'm back! Will it last? I don't know. Here's my favorite Easter week photos.

This is the cake Rex made for Aunt Carole's b-day. Notice how he creatively took advantage of the sunken pit. FYI, I was supposed to make the cake, and I did make one but it fell apart. I was going to just buy one but Rex volunteered...

Here's the girls at one of their two egg hunts. Millie is pilfering through one of her cousin's bags.

I just like this picture.

Little Rascal

Let's see, what was I doing yesterday afternoon? Oh yeah, I was making pizza. It took me a little while to get the dough rolled out right. Millie must of got bored because as I was flying past the bathroom to get something from the bedrooms when an unusual pile of diapers caught my eye.

It could have been much, much worse. At least these were clean!

The forecast called for sleet and snow today so we stayed home from church. I've had a cozy day of reading. I'm a chapter into a book about teaching elementary mathematics. Anyone want to read and discuss? Right now Millie is napping and the other two are painting with watercolors. There's a big pile of pillows in the family room. Here are some wilder times from earlier.

What happens when you turn six?

This!

It was actually a very traumatic day for Sylvia. Once she realized her tooth was hanging on by a thread she got pretty upset. She thought it was going to really hurt when it came out. We were eating spaghetti for dinner and she says to Rex, "I think I found a rock or something in my food." Of course it was her tooth. She didn't even feel it come out.

Now We Are Six

Here she is, the big 6 year old! We threw her an Ice Cream Sundae Bar party.

Sylvia had a great time!

As usual, I couldn't resist giving her something educational. But she and Gus love stuff like that.

Review

Here's what's been going on around here lately:

Sylvia loves "making a treat" as she calls it. Basically I let her ravage the cabinets and mix up whatever she wants.

The resulting mix goes by the name Rainbow and includes a little of all the sweet junk food she can find. Now she knows my candy stash better than I do!

Sylvia and Gus moved their chairs closer to the oven so they could thoroughly enjoy the smell of bacon baking (yes, I cook my bacon in the oven).

Gus finally got his vacuum! For those of you who don't know, ever since he saw a small vacuum a couple months ago he has been obsessing about having his own. We went to the Goodwill today and there it was... a $3 children's vacuum that really worked. Unfortunately it doesn't work well because he has had that thing running nonstop since the minute he laid eyes on it.

This has got to be one of Gus' favorite Christmas presents. It came on top of a tube of candy. The candy is long gone but whenever something is too hot, Gus or Sylvia run to get the Santa fan.

Gus the Builder

We went outside a couple of days ago to enjoy the weather. As soon as we got out there, Sylvia said that she wanted to have a little store and then told me to go cut down some trees! Well I obviously wasn't going to do that and I started thinking about something else. But before I knew it Gus ran into the house and ran out with his arms full of boards. Here he is glueing the beginnings of Sylvia's shop to the carport floor. That kind of project is just up his alley. Too bad we didn't have many boards. Too bad Elmer's glue doesn't really adhere wood to cement.
